George East is angry, opinionated and machine gun sharp on any subject you might want to argue about. The classic 1980’s Indie Kid, George graduated in politics and history before retraining for the bar. He supports Arsenal because football should be played on grass not in the air.

Bobby West has awoken! Bobby should have been a pop-star, but instead he spent ten years toiling within the inner echelons of Westminster, before retiring with his guitar to sell ice-creams in the West Country. A graduate of politics and history and West Brom fan – Bobby’s quiet, some might say, somnolent style betrays a ferocious mind for debate.

Jackie South is currently the most politically active; an economics graduate and veteran of the cut and thrust of local government, where his passion and honesty together with a wikipeidic knowledge of politics, history and current affairs has proved invaluable. On Saturdays he supports the misunderstood Millwall at the New Den.

Ray North also spent a decade inside the Westminster bubble writing for and advising politicians before retraining for the Bar. A novelist with a number of pet topics which he advocates in favour of with the enthusiasm of a collie dog. Liverpool fan because fifty years of history doesn’t lie.

Unknown-3Charlie East-West is the latest member of the Allthatsleft team, but what an addition, already he has shown himself to have a prodigious mind covering topics ranging from the British and Irish Lions rugby team to the dilemma of Scottish independence and the continuing problems of the economy. Like Bobby and Ray, Charlie cut his teeth in the Palace of Westminster before working in Sponsorship and Public Relations. He is a proud, occasional, kilt wearing Scotsman, a supporter of Manchester United and father of small children – we’re immensely proud to have him writing on these pages.

Dear Ray

I know that we had agreed that all university education should be free and that this could be achieved by decimating the number of places available but it has now struck me that we could fund higher education more effectively by simply selling degrees to those that can afford it. This would enable us to take out a substantial tithe of applicants who essentially want a finishing school with a qualification (and the course could be moderated on the basis of best use of gap year, least social utility or other appropriate criteria), leaving the field free for those whom education might most benefit.

Do let me know your thoughts. I will continue to develop the new prisons policy.

And another thing, why not choose the eponymous Thrice single? The fact that its highest position in the UK charts was 69 should be no reflection on the importance of this blog and any suggestion that a band of 4 people who met in the 90s and been chuntering along in much the same way since would be a gross over-simplification.

Hi Guys,

I recently found your site, I (for my sins) voted Conservative in 2010. I was tired of 13 years of misrule by the headline hungry soundbite obsessed Brown/ He Who Must Not Be Named administrations. Following 2010 I (maybe swept along by Cleggmania) felt that the Con Lib coalition would see a partial reverse of the deconstruction of what you point out as what made Britain a fundamentally decent place.

Oh how wrong I was, and the little cross in my box in one of Labour’s safest seats seems even smaller 18 months later.

I will follow your site faithfully, so please keep up the good work.

Kind regards.

Disheartened from Leeds

Eddie, glad to have you on board and glad you like it. The site reached its first anniversary yesterday and we certainly intend to continue plugging away in our small part of the blogosphere. We very much welcome all comments and debate so please do contribute. I think there’s going to be plenty to blog about over the coming years.

By the way guys, I read with interest your Hero/Villain/ Prat awards. I have a couple of nominations myself this week. Is it possible for me to make these known to you?

Do you have any female contributors?

Ray_North July 15, 2013 at 9:30 pm

Sadly, no regular female contributors – if you’d like to submit something, please let me know your ideas – we’d welcome them.

Hi, I’m trying to get permission to reproduce an article by Ray back in May 2013. I’m publishing an ebook of blog posts around the justice cuts. The book will be available as a free download. The full explanation is here:

It’s a password protected post so I’ll wait and see if this post goes into moderation before leaving it here. If it doesn’t would you mind dropping me an email or on Twitter @ilegal so I can pass it on? Or, just say yes 🙂

Many thanks all
