#1079: 2005, Tiësto, Adagio for Strings

by Charlie_East_West on June 10, 2016

Welcome to the second song in our Euro 2016 / EU Referendum Europop theme week.

Adagio for Strings by Dutch DJ Tiësto was released in January 2005. The song is a cover of the original composition by classical composer Samuel Barber. It was voted by Mixmag readers as the second greatest dance record of all time.

This fulfils DJ master Raymondo North’s criteria of a Europop-tastic proper banging tune.

I have worked out that I have visited the continent over 30 times in the last 20 years – either because of business or pleasure and I have spent many a holiday on the Mediterranean shores over the years. This is the sort of music that accompanied my bizarre choice of drinks and dance floor shapes at 2am in the morning.

We are blessed to be part of this wonderfully diverse and beautiful continent. We can learn a lot from our Continental brothers and sisters – like how to play attractive football; how wear stylish clothes; how to choose a decent bottle of wine; how to make salads interesting and also how to dance to Europop.

Our grey and damp little island should look outward towards Europe rather than looking inward. I hope the result of our vote on June 23rd reflects my sentiments.
