Week 16: Hero – Liverpool FC

by Charlie_East_West on April 18, 2016

Liverpool Football Club are our heroes of the week for coming back from 3-1 down to beat Borussia Dortmund 4-3 in the Quarter Finals of the Europa League.

There is something rather special about big European football nights at Anfield. Liverpool have a gluttonous back catalogue of glorious European triumphs and have now reached a staggering 17 European semi finals.

Their heroic comeback against Dortmund was right up there with the best of them. Galvanised by their supremely charismatic manager Jurgen Klopp (a man endowed with the worst set of bottom teeth and the best set of top teeth that bizarrely give off a megawatt smile) and their passionate fans, Liverpool produced one of the most glorious football fight-backs ever witnessed in this country.

As a Manchester United supporter, I am a rare breed. I have never bought into all this hatred of Liverpool. I see them for what they really are – part of the fabric of grand old teams of English football. Without a strong Liverpool, English and European football is a diminished proposition. I want Liverpool to be strong because it gives the rivalry between them and United extra bite.

But, I have to admit that as a United fan, I currently look across wistfully to Liverpool with a sense of manager envy. I wish Klopp was the United manager.
