I received a letter from Ed Miliband today:

Person in Scotland,

I am delighted and proud that the people of Scotland have made this historic decision to stay in the United Kingdom.

This was a vote for social justice, for our NHS, and for unity — because we are better together.

There must be stronger powers for the Scottish Parliament, but we must also change the way the UK is governed and who it is run for.

We need more good jobs and job security. We need decent wages and an end to poverty pay. We need a better future for our young people so they can believe they can have a better life than their parents.

There will be many across Scotland who are disappointed today. I am determined to show those people that the Labour Party can be the place for all our aspirations for fairness, our families and our country.

The last few weeks have been about keeping our country together. The next eight months will be about showing how we can change our country together.

There is only one party that can do it — and that is the Labour Party.

Thanks,

Ed

I reply:

Ed,

I am confused and angry that the people of Scotland have been tricked into making a historic decision to let fear and bullying by the establishment, media and corporate power influence their decision to stay in the United Kingdom.

It was a vote for austerity, the privatisation of the NHS and for unity of the establishment because they are better together if we don’t challenge the status quo.

There will not be any real stronger powers for the Scottish Parliament because these were never agreed by the Better Together campaign.

We do need more good jobs and job security, and all the other lofty aims you outline above. However Labour failed to deliver these during 13 years of power in Westminster, when the rich got richer and inequality rose. We need a better future for young people so they are not crippled by £9,000 a year tuition fees or penalised by the bedroom tax.

There are many across Scotland who are angry today. I am determined to show these people that they have been manipulated by a Labour Party which no longer speaks for the working person. We need a new place for all our aspirations for fairness, our families and our country.

The last few weeks have been about keeping the establishment together as it panicked that the people of Scotland had woken up to the power they might wield to forge a new country together. The next eight months will be about bickering between Westminster parties as they compete to change the country in the way that best suits their interests.

There is only one Westminster party because Labour have become almost inseparable from the Conservatives, and the Liberal Democrats are finished as a political power. There is only one option for the Scottish people, and that will be to comprehensively reject the Labour Party in May 2015. People will not forget Labour standing proud, shoulder to shoulder with the Conservatives.

You are, today, already backing down on the promises you made last week. You will be as toxic as Thatcher in Scotland.

As I recall, you have my email address because I was interested in finding out my NHS baby number. I filled this out because I was proud to be an NHS baby, a comprehensively educated child and someone who has worked hard to always put back into the state more than I take, but who relies on the knowledge that the NHS and welfare state will always be there to protect me, should I need their support. Yet, at the same time you were telling everyone in Scotland that the Yes campaign were putting out “scare stories” out the future of the NHS in Scotland, the Labour Party were campaigning against privatisation and charging in England, direct threats to NHS Scotland.

Please never contact me directly again.
