#935: 1990, Primal Scream, Come Together

by Jackie_South on September 19, 2014

So, the results are in. Scotland decides to remain in the United Kingdom: the right decision for both Scotland and the UK in my opinion. Most of my Scottish friends have been relieved, ecstatic and exhausted today.

But there is another side. 1.6 million Scots voted for independence in what was the UK’s highest turnout election in (almost) living memory, and they are left devastated. TV has been full of tearful Yes supporters. Our own Charlie East-West is one of those who is inconsolable. Today, the increased devolution offered seems scant comfort to them, particularly as our Prime Minister backtracks from the promises he made as part of the No campaign.

And the high passions in such a divisive election have boiled over into violence in Glasgow this evening. This election has left deep scars.

So, this is a timely message from one of Scotland’s greatest (and Better Together supporter), Bobby Gillespie. Now the election is over, whether they voted Yes or No, it is time for the Scottish to come together (as one).

This is also dedicated to Primal Scream‘s guitarist Robert ‘Throb’ Young, who sadly died last week. RIP.

Not “inconsolable”. “Frustrated” is a better word.

My all time favourite single. Always loved the Bobby vocal version more than the classic album version. Still have the 7inch single. Played it to death as a teenager. More than Loaded this introduced me to the Scream and made me a big fan.

It was so sad to hear about Young’s death. RIP.
