#856: 2010, Anthony Orio & The Goodfellers, When I Can’t Love You

by Jackie_South on February 16, 2014

Anthony Orio and The Goodfellers are a country rock band George East and I discovered on our 2007 trip round the American South: they held the residency at the rear stage of Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge (a honky-tonk bar in Nashville, and quite possibly the best bar in the world). Like most musicians in Nashville, they aren’t from town, nor even the South really: Orio hails from Pennsylvania whilst bassist and fellow song-writer Christopher Griffiths is from Michigan.

I liked their stuff enough to buy their first album when it came out in 2010, and regularly listened to it on my I-Pod whilst on the campaign trail in the general election that year. When I Can’t Love You is the opening track, a full-throttle blue collar anthem to frustrated lust. You can’t mess with the great opening line:

I see the foreman’s face in every nail I drive

The album isn’t short of great lyrics: my favourite lyric of 2010 comes from their ballad to holiday infatuation Drunk Girl:
We were Fred and Ginger on the old dance floor
Heard a couple of girls say “Look at that whore”

I quite like this simple homemade video too: given the time Americans spend on the freeway, those traffic jams almost make me pine for the good ol’ US of A.

world cup 2014 match times March 28, 2014 at 5:40 am

World Cup is that Brazil is the only country to have participated in
each and every of these 19 World Cups. Coming a near second is Italy, with 4 World Cup wins to their credit.
Even though Germany has won the Cup thrice, Uruguay and Argentina have
won it 2 times each and every, and England, Germany and Spain have received it after every single.
All through the heritage, South The usa and Europe were tied with nine
World Cup wins each, but a win for Spain in lately
concluded World Cup 2010 gave Europe a direct of 10-9.
