Parrot Politics in Belarus

by Charlie_East_West on January 23, 2014

A parrot has apparently been accepted to stand in a local election in Belarus after his application was approved by local authorities.

The Mazur electoral commission processed the relevant documents, written by local activist, Kanstantsin Zhukouski on behalf of his pet, Yasha, to stand as a candidate in the municipal election. They also processed an application to set up an associated campaign group for the parrot.

Zhukouski said his parrot had long dreamed of becoming a politician and had learnt to say several phrases as part of his candidacy bid such as “where is money?” and “I want to go to the council chamber.”

Yasha even has a political slogan – “Yasha is good.”

Perhaps this is the way forward for politics in the UK? Idiotic candidates to replace idiotic politicians? Perhaps such candidates would lift the low standards of political discourse and policy in this country.

A pig to replace Eric Pickles? A blank piece of paper to replace Jeremy Hunt? A ginger rodent to replace Danny Alexander? A cowboy to replace Grant Shapps? Iain Duncan Smith to replace Iain Duncan Smith?

Your suggestions for ideal idiotic political replacement candidates are always most welcome on this forum…

Someone who admits to being a Tory to replace Liam Byrne?
