#714: 2003, The Libertines, Don’t Look Back Into The Sun

by Ray_North on June 29, 2013

Yes, I know, strictly speaking it’s not my turn to post the song of the day.
Today is a special day. Today, our mate, comrade, colleague and self-proclaimed ranter-in-chief of these veritable pages, George East is getting married.

Yes, they never said it would happen, but the love of a fine woman has finally tamed him.

Picking a suitable song to mark today’s event has proved to be a challenge – did we go kitsch and ironic and allow Sir Cliff or Kool and the Gang to pollute our hallowed pages with their songs of Celebration, did we post something that Mrs East would like (from memory I think she once proclaimed to muted response that her favourite album of all time was by Kulashaker); did we pick something that we just knew George would love (a bit easy this – just about anything from The Smiths or The Clash will plunge George into a short-lived period of happiness) which had nothing to do with weddings.

Well, after much deliberation – we’ve gone for this by The Libertines. Not sure it’s on message, but who cares – I’ve always found it a brilliant uplifting song and the first verse kind of says it all.

Don’t look back into the sun
Now you know that your time has come
And they said it would never come for you oh oh oh

George we hope you and Mrs East have a brilliant day and a fantastic future.

Thank you. See you at the end of July.

For accuracy, Kulashaker is a favourite single but Wham Fantastic is my favourite album. Thankfully Mr East turns a blind eye to my music choices!

Thank you from me too. Great to have so many of the All That’s Left boys with us yesterday to shake their tail feathers in celebratory style!!

Blind eye? Deaf ear, you mean.
