Ambiguous Unions?

Should read Conservative attitude surely? Could this not equally be applied to Scottish Nationals, surely having won their independence the last thing they would want to do is to sacrifice any of their hard fought sovereignty to Europe.

it does bring the real point to the fore though, namely that this is not actually independence, but de-unification we are actually talking about. The Union was formed between two nation states, and was not an act of colonisation or conquest by one of the other.

An act of union though, surely implies a right of dissolution. I don’t want to see Scotland go, but I think they have an inalienable right to do so. What has been absolutely clear over the course of the last 30 years, is that the political culture of England and Scotland have become completely divergent. Scotland sits in a Northern European social democratic belt. England looks longingly across the Atlantic.
