#199: 1983, Jason & The Scorchers, Absolutely Sweet Marie

by Jackie_South on June 8, 2011

I was umm-ing and ahh-ing about my choice today.  Punk? Country? Dylan?

Being a little indecisive, I decided to do all three, with this Dylan cover (taken from Blonde On Blonde) by eighties’ Cowpunk pioneers Jason and the Scorchers, who were an importance influence on alt-country a decade later.

Oh, and to add to its appeal, the video manages to include a snippet from arguably the greatest bar in the world (Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge) along with other Nashville landmarks.

Don’t say I never spoil you…

Blimey, Jason and The Scorchers, don’t think I’ve thought about them in over 20 years. Andy Kershaw used to big them up back in the day on The Old Grey Whistle Test.
